Research Topic "An Image-based Communication Framework for Higher Education Learning"
Summary of Research My research investigates the use of student-selected pictorial representations for learning and teaching purposes; that is, for classroom discussion and the externalisation of ideas. I am interested in how students make their representational choices, the characteristics of their discussion, the nature of the pictorial representations and their interpretations.

In my research, images act as an externalisation and mediation tool through which the students represent the taught concepts assigned by a teacher (module tutor).

I view learning as a process of human transformation which requires active engagement. That is, deep, motivating, meaningful interaction with and reflection on studied concepts.

I hope that my research will illuminate processes relating to the representation of abstract concepts through images and whether, why,
and how the image-based method I propose enhances the depth and/or productivity of learning experience.
