  • Personal Inquiry (PI): Designing for Evidence-based Inquiry Learning across Formal and Informal Settings. A project with the Open university, funded by the ESRC/EPSRC TEL inititive, to support 21st century science learning with mobile technologies.
  • HP Technology in Higher Education. A project funded by HP Technology for Teaching Higher Education initiative to investigate the use of tablet technologies in university teaching.

Completed Projects

  • MyArtSpace, an interactive service that enables visitors to museums and galleries to 'collect' cultural artefacts with their mobile phones, create their own online collections and share their interest, knowledge and enthusiasm about the objects and art works they find.
  • MOBILearn. A worldwide European-led research and development project exploring context-sensitive approaches to informal, problem-based and workplace learning by using key advances in mobile technologies. EC Information Society Technologies Programme.

  • CAERUS (Context Aware Educational Resource System): a complete system for authoring and delivering location-based multimedia for mobile outdoor learning.

  • Interactive Logbook. Project funded by JISC to develop an integrated suite of applications to aid mobile groupwork and student learning

  • Grant holder of an EPSRC Cognitive Engineering Initiative project , to study the work practices and learning methods of trainee radiologists and to use the results to inform the design of computer-based tutoring systems. The research fellow was Nathan Jeffery. Final report of the project: (PDF) (HTML).

  • MEDIATE. A project with the University of Sussex, De Montfort University and the Institute of Neurology to develop a knowledge-based training system for Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging. Research grant Computer Support in Neuroradiology via Interactive Overviews of Disease Spaces funded by EPSRC. Co-investigator, with Benedict du Boulay, University of Sussex.

  • A Developmental Study of Children as Photographers. Funded by ESRC. Co-investigator with Glyn Thomas, School of Psychology. Research Fellow, Laura Davison.

  • Children as Photographers. Project partners are Kodak and the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television.

  • Lab of Tomorrow: development of technology to link teaching of natural sciences to everyday life. Principal Investigator Chris Baber. EC Information Society Technologies Programme.

  • HandLeR (Handheld Learning Resource). A project with Kodak and BT to develop personal mobile technologies for lifelong learning.
